The Verhoef telescopic gangway
The Dutch company Verhoef Access Technology is world famous for its high quality ship-to-shore gangways. We have been designing and manufacturing gangways for petrochemical terminals for 40 years. By now more than 600 telescoping gangway systems have been successfully delivered to a total of 58 countries.

Our gangway for oil and LNG terminals is designed with safety, versatility and durability in mind. And our designs are made according to well proven concepts. It is our specialty to make telescopic access ladders that are in absolute accordance with the requirements of the Client.

Shore-based systems
Gangways for LNG and oil terminals are mounted on a steel construction which can optionally be equipped with platforms, control cabins, stores crane or fire monitors platform.

In the past 40 years Verhoef has developed two basic designs for the petrochemical industry upon which almost all custom-made Verhoef gangway equipment is based:

• The column types have a telescopic gangway at a fixed height, suitable for reaching ship deck levels up to about 15 meters higher than the jetty deck.
• The gangway tower with a telescoping ladder and lift platform is able to cover all ranges of the ship deck levels. Depending on the tower height and number of lift platform stations, all possible deck levels can be reached.

Depending on the requirements of the client, the telescopic gangways can be equipped with self-levelling steps or an anti-slip walking surface with cross-ridges.

The Verhoef access ladders are operated by hydraulic and explosion-proof electrical systems, all controlled by a logically operated control panel. Only one operator is needed to place the telescoping gangway on the ships deck.

Our gangways for LNG and oil terminals are manufactured out of high grade steel and aluminium, and are treated with special paint systems that have been selected for their outstanding technical properties. Verhoef telescoping gangways are versatile and will automatically move with the motion of the ship, up and down and in and out (our so-called ‘free-wheel system’). As a result, our access ladders are fit for use on any LNG or oil terminal around the world.

Our telescopic gangways are of lasting quality; many of the gangways we manufactured over 25 years ago, are still fully operational today! For these telescoping systems, we have set up complete overhaul programmes to extend their lifetime even further.
